The network NNMPF should facilitate music educational research by

• initiate and do research education with broad Nordic participation
• facilitate communication of Nordic music educational research between researchers, and between researchers and "users"

In autumn 1992, representatives from Nordic institutions running music educational research and research education, met in Oslo to plan a Nordic network. The main purpose of the network is to help improve the quality of the Nordic research in music education.

The network is being lead by a group of coordinators with representators from at least three of the Nordic countries. It is directed towards everyone who are active participators in music educational research and organizes yearly conferences and publish yearbooks and journals. The network is also running an e-mail list which publishes information about relevant courses, conferences and so forth - even activities not run by the network.
